The 2017 Brookfield retreat was an amazing weekend of relaxation and lace making.
The spanish lace workshop with tutor Ethel Zuccolotto was a big success and literally had people doing circles.

Crochet Beaded Centrepiece
This amazing beaded centrepiece was worked by Liz Foat
The pattern came from an old Crochet Monthly magazine.
The finished piece is approx. 7 ins (17 cms) in diameter.
Materials used approx. 10 gr. No 80 crochet cotton. Liz used white for this piece. Other materials were
- 60mm Steel crochet hook.
- 474 sml blue beads
- 414 sml yellow beads
- 27 lg blue beads
- 27 pearl tear drop shaped beads.
All 942 beads have to be threaded onto the crochet cotton before starting the work.
As the hook did not go through the small gold beads Liz used this method.
Hardanger Sissor Keep Mini Workshop
Novembers Mini Workship was a cute little piece of hardanger which could be fashioned into a sissor keep.
The pattern called for 22 count hardanger (oslo), number 5 or 8 pearl cotton and number 22 or 24 tapestry neadles. With their gridded fabric in hand the attendees were quickly stiching away.
I am hoping to see the finished product at next months Brisbane meeting.

Idrija Flower Mini Workshop
Octobers’s mini workshop was a small flower in Idrija bobbin lace.
Alice Skenner who had recently attended the OIDFA congress in Europe was our tutor for the day.
The class required the usually bobbin lace equipment (sizzors, pins, small pillow) plus 8 pairs of bobbins suitable for Sew ins, a small crochet hook and size 40 cotton.
Our challenge was to complete only the very centre of the flower pattern and it seemed simple enough but there were a few interesting tecnhiques to be learnt.

August 2016 Mini Workshop
Our mini workshop in August was presented by Carolyn Turton (our new Queensland Guild President).
In this workshop Carolyn demonstrated how to make a pair of delicate beaded earrings. You might ask why a lace guild would include beading workshops in it’s agenda but as many of the modern or contemporary lace styles include adding accessories such as beads or sequins learning to work with beads is very relevant. As well as the fact that we like to learn new skills and have fun. .

Celebrating 20 Years of lace volunteering
Queensland Lace guild member Madge McLennan has been co-ordinating the Ipswich group meetings of Queensland Lace guild for over 20 years. Major Paul Pisasale dropped by the groups recent Open Day event, to present Madge with a certificate of thanks on behalf of Ispwich city council and councillors.
Below are a collection of photographs from the open day which by all reports was greeted with lots of enthusiasim.

Upcoming General Meeting – 26th November 2016
The next General Meeting for Queensland Lace Guild will be held at Caloundra Arts and Craft Centre (C.A.C.A) on Saturday November 26th 2016. Members and visitors are welcome.
The General Meeting will commence at 10:30am. The agenda for the meeting was published in the latest ‘Bobbin About’ magazine
A light lunch will be provided for a gold coin donation
The Caloundra group will be celebrating 30 years of Lace and Commemorative bobbins are being made to mark this event. The bobbins will be spangled, have a pelican painted on stem and the inscription will read “Caloundra Lace Makers 30th Anniversary 2016.
These must be ordered in advance and orders close on 31st October. Cost for a bobbin will be $6.50 each ($13 a pair).
