The Caloundra group will supply complimentary basic supplies for both workshops. Please bring any tools you might already have for beading and if you would like more expensive beads, they may be purchased on the day.

There will be a few options of what you can create. A paper craft workshop has also been organised. Some of our ‘Paper and Thread’ items we have made will be on display too.

And at the General Meeting, the hosts will have a second mini workshop on ‘Origami Like’ creations…easy though…only because we are still working on our paper and thread challenge!

There is a COVID plan in action at the Caloundra ARTS Centre which must be strictly adhered to. Please be aware of the plans in place:

  • Seating arranged at a safe distance.
  • Bring your own cup, eating utensils and food as there is to be no sharing of food. There will be some individually wrapped snacks available for morning tea. Coffee and tea will be available and while we have plenty of cups, members are encouraged to bring their own.

  • There is to be no passing one another in the hallway on the way to the toilet.
  • The floor has been marked to indicate direction of movement.
  • Members will be asked to register on arrival.
  • Hand wash provided on entry.

Hardanger Sissor Keep Mini Workshop

Novembers Mini Workship was a cute little piece of hardanger which could be fashioned into a sissor keep.

The pattern called for 22 count hardanger (oslo),  number 5 or 8 pearl cotton and number 22 or 24 tapestry neadles.  With their gridded fabric in hand the attendees were quickly stiching away.

I am hoping to see the finished product at next months Brisbane meeting.

Idrija Flower Mini Workshop

Octobers’s mini workshop was a  small flower in Idrija bobbin lace.

Alice Skenner who had recently attended the OIDFA congress in Europe was our tutor for the day.

The class required the usually bobbin lace equipment (sizzors, pins, small pillow) plus 8 pairs of bobbins suitable for Sew ins, a small crochet hook and size 40 cotton.

Our challenge was to complete only the very centre of the flower pattern and it seemed simple enough but there were a few interesting techniques to be learnt.

Below are a few pictures as we get started. The featured image is Alice’s beautiful completed flower centre.

August 2016 Mini Workshop

Our mini workshop in August was presented by Carolyn Turton (our new Queensland Guild President).

In this workshop Carolyn  demonstrated  how to make a pair of delicate beaded earrings. You might ask why a lace guild would include beading workshops in it’s agenda but as many of the modern or contemporary  lace styles include adding accessories such as beads or sequins learning to work with beads is very relevant. As well as the fact that we like to learn new skills and have fun.

You can see some of  the results of this recent workshop in the images below .

If you are interested in taking part in one of our upcoming mini workshops please get in touch.
